Bariatric Surgery Revision
What Is Bariatric Revision Surgery?
Many people who undergo gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, mini gastric bypass, or LAP-BAND®/gastric band surgery are able to lose excess body mass and achieve their ideal weight. However, some patients hit a wall when it comes to weight loss, preventing them from experiencing all the benefits of bariatric surgery.
In these cases, a revision surgery is performed that either adjusts or alters the initial bariatric procedure. Thanks to bariatric surgery revision, patients can get back on track with their weight loss and wellness goals.
If you have trouble losing weight after bariatric surgery, you are not alone...
LAP-BAND Failure Gastric Band Problems

"I had a wonderful experience at Vision Bariatrics" Experience High-Quality Bariatric Surgery in Tijuana
I had gastric sleeve surgery here. Everyone is friendly. It's clean. Very private. I would go here again if I needed too.
View On GoogleEveryone was so nice and friendly! They genuinely care about your well-being and your health is always #1 to them. I spoke to at least 2 doctors, 4 nurses and the coordinator and nutritionist once a day. Everyone is so eager to watch you succeed. The rooms are comfortable and they bring your food to the rooms, I brought my mom as my guest and they had a whole bed in the room for her with me and the bathroom looks like a hotel bathroom, very comfortable and clean. They have a cafeteria with vegan food and I personally couldn’t eat it but my mom loved it and it smelled amazing. Definitely a 10/10 experience. I highly recommend it.

Bariatric Revision Options
LAP-BAND Revision
LAP-BAND involves placing an adjustable silicone band around the top portion of the stomach, limiting stomach capacity and restricting calorie intake. Unfortunately, many gastric banding patients require frequent band adjustments or achieve limited weight loss results.
Thankfully, gastric banding is fully reversible, which gives surgeons many options to adjust a failed LAP-BAND. LAP-BAND patients often have their procedure converted into a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass to promote more dramatic weight loss.
Gastric Sleeve Revision
Also known as a sleeve gastrectomy, gastric sleeve surgery involves removing part of the stomach. This reduces the size of the stomach, which means less calorie consumption and reduced sensations of hunger between meals. A failed gastric sleeve typically occurs when the stomach naturally expands following the initial surgery.
When revising a gastric sleeve, surgeons may initially opt to re-sleeve. This secondary surgery involves further reduction of stomach size to promote restrictive weight loss. Other options include converting the sleeve gastrectomy to a gastric bypass or a duodenal switch.
Gastric Bypass Revision
A roux-en-y gastric bypass involves the reduction of the stomach size and rerouting the stomach to bypass part of the small intestine. This restricts the amount of calories consumed per meal while also reducing calories absorbed during the digestion process. Gastric bypass failure typically involves health complications or limited weight loss success.
When revising a gastric bypass, surgeons may first reduce the size of the stomach pouch even further to restrict calorie intake. It is also possible to convert a gastric bypass into a duodenal switch to promote greater long-term weight loss.
Mini Gastric Bypass Revision
A mini gastric bypass surgery is similar to a traditional gastric bypass. Both surgeries reduce the size of the stomach and bypass part of the small intestine, though the mini gastric bypass will bypass less of the small intestine.
When revising a mini gastric bypass surgery, surgeons can convert the procedure into a full gastric bypass to help patients lose more weight. We can also convert a mini gastric bypass into a duodenal switch if needed.

View On GoogleA truly amazing experience going to the Vision Bariatrics. My husband had a gastric sleeve done last week. The hospital is a very modern and up-to-date facility, clean and beautiful. The patient rooms are more like a hotel rooms. Each room has a private bathroom and contains a hospital bed and a regular bed for your companion. From the first time I contacted the hospital, the staff were very kind. Answered all my questions. Made me feel safe and comfortable before I even arrived. They had all transportation arranged both ways. Surgery went perfect. I had a great team and would recommend them to anyone.
